Good Morning,

There is no such thing as an overnight success. Too many people believe that the successful team or the successful athlete became great overnight or were born to be great or stumbled upon it. This is just not true. Instead this is the accumulation of thousands of reps and hours and hours of work in the weight room or on the practice field. What we see under the lights on Friday nights does not happen overnight and does not happen by accident.

Each day our players must wake up and practice, prepare and train to be the best that they can be in whatever they do.

Each day we have to strive to get better in all that we do. That is why I have adopted the 1% theme for this year. From November to August 5, if our players would strive to just be 1% better that day than they were the day before that is 278 days. 278% better!?

I am a firm believer that each day you are either getting better or worse, you do not stay the same. Some days we may take a step back but that just means the next day we must strive to become twice as good. One of my greatest joys is to see kids “get it” and become more confident in themselves and find that next level.

The Mustang Football Program is a huge supporter of multi-sport athletes. I believe we are blessed to have an amazing group of coaches on staff and when these players have the opportunity to play for them and compete in a different sport with possibly different teammates it makes them a better person and a more competitive athlete. That competition those different expectations benefit us on the football field and for our football team. Our kids become better football players competing in other sports.

I want our guys to compete and a school our size needs this to happen as well. Anyone who believes a person should specialize is just plain wrong and is hurting the kid. Playing the same sport year round increases the chance for injury. This year during the super bowl they had a graphic of all these amazing millionaires and athletes and a large proportion of them were multi-sport athletes.

The first two questions recruiters ask me when they come into my office 1. How are his grades? 2. Does he play other sports?

I hope you have a great week. Please check out our website and follow us on twitter. It is a great day to be a Mustang.
