College Player Profile: Ian Bootsmiller-Simpson

September 17, 2017 — 8:18am CDT

While on the Mustang Football team Ian Bootsmiller played a huge role on both the offensive and defensive side of the football.  On offense Ian helped guide one of the most explosive offenses in the state while playing the offensive line.  On defense Ian play the line and linebacker posiiton.

During Ian's Junior year he was named to the honorable mention all-district team.  In his last season as a Mustang Ian was named second team all-district as a lineman.

Ian was also a talented soccer player, earning all-district his junior and senior seasons.  Ian also excelled in the classroom and was a member of the National Honor Society.

1.  The most memorable moment from my Mustang football experience was my junior year as a whole, playing in the dome, beating Albia, and making it to the championship.  That year I made great relationships with my friends that will last a life time.  Having success in football while also hanging out and having fun with my friends was something special.
2. College football is different than high school football.  They expect you to come in conditioned so there is far less running.  However, during camp there are a lot of meetings throughout the day that take up most of your time.  During the season things get less busy and practices are a lot like high school, scouting teams and such.  College football definitely makes you be more responsible and to work for what you want.
3. Mount Vernon definitely helped a lot with the transition to college.  Football wise, having known success in the past and knowing how to lead and build a team together and the coaches creating a sense of work ethic and responsibility in myself.  The fact that the Mount Vernon football program set high standards really pushed me to create high standards for myself when transitioning into college.
4.  Simpson is a really great college.  Education wise it is a very prestigious school.  The teachers all push you to be your best and they really want you to be prepared for the future when applying for a job.  The community is also very nice, Indianola is a nice town like Mount Vernon.  The fact that it is 15 minutes from Des Moines is a benefit too because there are lots of things to do.  On the football side of things the coaches here are fantastic.  The head coach, Coach Jeter, is really driven to make this team have success again.. The fact that he used to play football here and have success is very personal to him and he wants us to have the same experience that we did.
5.  My advice to players would be just figure out what you want to do and what you are passionate about and attack that with all you've got.  Football wise, give 110% all the time and be bought in to the program and you will have success.
6. After college I would like to get a job as a high school teacher, possibly in Science.
7.The season is looking alright so far.  The defense is playing great and the offense is figuring out their identity.  So good things to come.
8. HS activities involved in:Football, Soccer, Baseball, Basketball

"Ian was a very good offensive lineman for us.  He worked extremely hard each day to get better and was a very fun person to be around.  Ian was a very dependable player for us and an outstanding youngman.  I look forward to watching him grow as a person and player at Simpson.  I am sure he will do a lot of great things." Head Coach Lance Pedersen
