College Player Profile: Chris Chapman- Cornell College

September 11, 2017 — 9:40am CDT

Chris Chapman played offensive line for the Mustangs during the state runner-up season.  Chris was a vocal leader for the Mustangs O-line and the team.  He always brought great energy to every practice and every game.  While on the offensive line Chris helped lead one of the most explosive offenses in all of Iowa.

While at Mount Vernon Chris was involved in football, basketball and track.

Most Memorable Mustang Football Moment:  My most memorable moment would have to be my entire senior season. From beating Anamosa in the playoffs to playing in the state title game, the entire season left me with memories that will last for a lifetime.

What is college football like: College football is a totally different game compared to high school football. College football is like a full time job. During camp the average day consists of three hour practices and three hour meetings everyday. The actual game itself is much faster and much more physical compared to high school, which is more challenging but also makes the game that much more fun for myself.

How did Mount Vernon help you with the transition to college: Mount Vernon helped me with the transition to college by preparing me both physically and mentally for the game which has paid off greatly so far in my career. As for actual college life it kinda helps living in a town for 19 years then going to a college in the same town. (I know where everything is and show people around this beautiful area)

Tell us about Cornell: Cornell is a special place. All the coaches on the staff get to know you on both an athletic level and a personal level. School here is different then anywhere else due to our block program. The block makes it easy to handle both football and school at the same time. Also Cornell is located in the greatest town of all time.

Advice to players: Some personal advice to players is, 1. Be mean 2. Be nasty 3. Don't be soft. Football is simulated war you gotta go out and try your hardest to be the most aggressive, physical and technically sound player on the field.

Future Plans: I plan to become a high school physical education teacher and coach football.

Season Outlook: We went .500 last year and graduated a good group of seniors, but we brought in some freshman and have several returning starters that will bring a lot to the table this year. Our goal is to go 1-0 every week until there are no more weeks left.

"Chris seemed to love every part of the game of football from the pre-game, to meeting young kids at camp, to the game itself.  He brought great energy to the game and played with his heart.  Chris was always a lot of fun to be around and was very coachable and is doing a lot of great things now at Cornell.  I am excited to watch him grow.  His energy and love of the game is very infectious." Head Coach Lance Pedersen said.
