College Player Profile: Mickey Hines Cornell College

This week's college player profile is Mickey Hines Cornell College.
Mickey played a crucial role while a Mustang. In his junior year he was an explosive back for the Mustangs as well as a dangerous return man. Everytime Mickey touched the ball there was a chance he was going to make a big play. Mickey was sidelined for the senior season with a knee injury. Instead of sitting back and feeling sorry himself Mickey play a role as an assistant coach and leader for the team.
Mickey was able to quickly heal and run for the Mustang Track team in the spring. Mickey also played in one play when the Mustangs upset the then #1 team in the state Albia.
We contacted Mickey last week and he answered the following questions for this college player profile.
1. Most memorable moment was the Semi Final game my senior year. An injury prevented me from playing the majority of my senior year but I asked the coaches if I could dress for the game. They let me and winning that game I got to awkwardly hop on one leg for the final snap. The view of the crowd was unforgettable.
2. College football is a big change from high school, but the new people you meet with their different backgrounds makes playing with new teammates enjoyable.
3. How did Mount Vernon help you with the transition to college:It helped me become a better student and shaped who I am today athletically and academically.
4. Tell us about Cornell: Cornell may scare other students who are at Mount Vernon, but when you are up on campus it is a whole new world. It has its own bubble that gives the feel that you are not in the same town that you grew up in. Cornell is such an amazing college.
5. My advice to players is to not take what you have for granted. You never know when your last play may be so give it everything you have.
6. Future plans are to continue school at Cornell to obtain a degree in Kinesiology with an endorsement in Education. Also plan on becoming a coach.
7. Big goals for Cornell this year and it looks promising. We bring back some great players so I am excited to see what everyone can do when we work as a team.
8. Parents Teresa and Michael Hines
9. High School Sports: Football 4 years Basketball 3 year Wrestling 1 year Track 4 years
10. Tell us about Cornell Track: Track is a great and long season. It is different goals than high school. I always try to run as fast as I can but for Cornell it is to win a conference championship while in high school it is to win a State championship. It is fun as well because you do not get medals at every meet like high school so when you do get an All Conference medal it is very rewarding.
"Being a former Mustang was such a great privilege and I thank everyone from that school district who taught me what I know today." Mickey Hines
"Mickey was a great leader for us, we really missed him his senior year as a player but truly valued what he did for the team after his injury. Mickey is a great youngman and I really enjoy following all the success he is having at Cornell." Head Football Coach Lance Pedersen.
