Scrimmage at West Branch

August 13, 2017 — 5:34pm CDT

The 2017 football season starts off with a trip to the historic "Little Rose Bowl" located at Oliphant Street Field. The scrimmage is set for Friday August 18 at 6:30.  For the 3rd season in a row West Branch and Mount Vernon will be involved in a controlled scrimmage.  The last two years the scrimmage was held at Ash Field on the Cornell campus.  

The West Branch Bears are led by Hall of Fame Coach Butch Pedersen and finished the 2016 season with a 6-4 record and another state playoff appearance..  The Mustangs are led by Head Coach Lance Pedersen in his fourth season.  Last year Mount Vernon was the Class 2A District 5 Champions and eventual state semi-final participant finishing the season at 9-3.  

The scrimmage is set to start at 6:30 with the JV squads taking the field.  The varsity is expected to begin their portion of the scrimmage at 7:30.  

The scrimmage will be a controlled scrimmage where a predetermined number of plays will be ran as well as where and when the ball will be placed.  There will be set of officials for this contest.  Also the Quarterback will be off limits and most of the night the back will be a high thud only.
