Tristan Wirfs was named the captain for 2A. Wirfs led Mount Vernon to its second straight trip to the semifinals earlier this month. Wirfs, a University of Iowa recruit and an Army All-American, helped Mount Vernon score an average of 47 points per game while leading the squad to a 9-3 mark. Wirfs is one of the top offensive linemen in the entire Nation. With him leading the way, Mount Vernon had two 1,000-yard rushers and the team passed for more than 2,700 yards, too.  

In 2016 Tristan played left tackle and the did not give up a sack.  The offense had over 6,000 yards of total offense. Also on the offensive line with Tristan was Jack Bootsmiller, all-district selection, Hunter Hormann, All-district selection, Zach Perry all-district and John Butz all-district.
