Mount Vernon over Beckman
The Mustangs dominated in the first round of playoffs on Wednesday Oct. 28 at Ash Park taking on the Beckman Catholic Blazers.
Mount Vernon quickly takes over the ball with only 2 minutes into the first quarter Mount Vernon’s Sam Moore runs the ball 23 yards into the endzone for a touchdown. The two point conversion pass by Drew Adams to Nick Bevans is no good. Score is now 6-0, Mount Vernon. On the next series of downs Drew Adams finds Jack Cochrane over the middle for a 14 yard gain on the play. Touchdown Mount Vernon! The extra two points are good from Adams to Connor Hermann. Mount Vernon is ahead, 14-0 with 3 minutes and 17 seconds left in the first.
At the beginning of the second Carter Rodman sprints the ball 11 yards into the endzone for a touchdown. Moore’s kick is good for the extra point. Mount Vernon continues to dominate with a score of 21-0. On the next series of downs Adams runs the ball 9 yards for a touchdown. Moore’s kick is good and the score is now 28-0, Mount Vernon. Halfway through the second quarter Adams pass is complete to Hermann who runs the ball 80 yards into the endzone. Moore’s kick is good for the extra point. Mustangs are now up 35,0. Two minutes later on the next series of downs, Cochrane runs the ball 5 yards for a touchdown. Moore’s kick is no good. Mount Vernon is up 41-0.
In the middle of the third quarter Beckman’s Jacob Grover runs the ball 1 yard into the endzone for a touchdown. The two point conversion run by Grover is no good. Blazers are now on the board with 8 points. Mount Vernon continues to lead 41-8.
Grover from Beckman runs the ball 1 yard again for a touchdown. The two point conversion run is no good, by Tyler Hirsch. The Mount Vernon Mustangs finish the game with a final score of 41-14. They will advance to the second round of playoffs on Monday Nov. 2 against Central Lee in Donnellson, IA. Please go and support the Mustangs!
